Life on the ground in Israel

My last night in Israel

Daniel 2:20,21 “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And he changes the times and the seasons: He removes kings and raises up kings: He gives wisdom and knowledge to those who have understanding.”

I cannot believe this is my last night in Israel. All my senses are heightened. I am putting in my memory bank smells, sights, sounds and people. Mostly the people.

Today is just a gorgeous day. The sky is clear and the temperature is in the high 60’s—just about perfect.

I know that tomorrow the cast of characters will change at the B&B. I think the Texans are leaving and Morris left today. The French are here as are the Russians. I have really enjoyed my stay there. They have been so kind to me—just like a small family.

I took a long walk around the neighborhood—sort of a one last look. God willing, I will be back in March and Spring will be blooming.

Will is at work at Bridges for Peace today, so I am catching up on emails and packing. I just do not understand where all the stuff comes from. I don’t think I have bought that much. I came with two bags, thinking that after Thanksgiving, I would return to the States with one bag. It looks like that is not going to happen—next time.

I thought about our Thanksgiving again. It really turned out well. I am still praising and thanking God for the lovely dinner. So much could have gone wrong. I cooked on a really small stove with one oven and little counter space to work with. After all the horror tales I heard about fixing turkey, the breast and the legs turned out well.

I heard a story about Susan and her first Thanksgiving here in Israel. She ordered a whole turkey, picked it up and cooked it. When it came out, her husband, Barry, said it looked like a porcupine. All the pin feathers had popped out. I laughed so hard at that one. That’s why I went with the pieces of turkey. When I really think about it, the most important thing was the fellowhship.

News is all about Gaza and Israel—who pulled out, who did not, who fired first, who did not. On we go. It is so reassuring to know that God is in control. Why do we think the Muslims want peace?

I had pizza for lunch on Ben Yehuda (downtown). Tomorrow I will probably have falafel one last time before I leave.

I will miss the “street chicken” game (my name). The sidewalks are made for two and a half people, so if I am walking by myself, it is a game to see who moves aside first. I promise you, more times than not, it is me that moves first.

Thank you again for your support of this ministry.

    Dear Sandra,

I pray Gods blessing as you continue your Holiday season without your beloved Zola. I am glad you were with your son, your thanksgiving meal sounded so sweet. I love reading your blogs from Israel. Your descriptions bring your experience alive! I’ve never been to Israel in person, but my heart is so there! Someday! Take care Sandra.

    In Jesus,

    Kimberly

    Dear Sandra,

It has been a tough year—you lost your beloved Zola; I lost my beloved dad exactly one month earlier to the day. Both are with Yeshua. My dear sister in Yeshua, I simply adore your blogs about your stay and experiences in Israel. They are absolutely wonderful!!! Also, I think you and Jeff are doing an absolutely fabulous job of carrying on for Zola!!! I am so grateful that I get you on the internet (it wasn’t always convenient for us to watch on TBN as much as we wanted to do so as my husband was getting ready to go to work usually at that time—we relied heavily instead on the newsletters we received which I looked forward to eagerly every month and which I devoured from cover to cover as soon as they came [as I still do]; now we can watch you whatever time we choose and watch again and again as often as we choose. Please stay with Real Player as we have a Mac. The Bible teaching Jeff does is wonderful. We enjoy it so much. Also, thank you so much for continuing the Levitt Letters etc. We enjoyed Zola and counted on him to keep us abreast of what was going on regarding Israel and of course his music was wonderful, too. But again, you, Sandra, Jeff, and Mark are doing a fantastic job of continuing this wonderful ministry. (We discovered Bridges for Peace before Zola, so we stay attuned to that ministry as well, and I listen to your son Will often on that radio program. In fact,it’s the first thing I check on the net daily to see if there is anything new to listen to.) Are you also related to the singer Chuck King, by the way? Just curious. I wish you a wonderful Hanukkah and as Jews for Jesus says Merry Messiahmas and healing for your grieving heart. May the Lord enfold you in His loving arms and fill you to overflowing with His precious Holy Spirit. In His love. Mrs. D.

May the Grace and Peace of G-d abound in your Life…

See You in Heaven or Sooner,

    With Love and Respect,

I just finished watching Dr. Jeff in Israel teaching about the Festival of Lights. Reading your words are comforting and so welcome. Mrs. D has expressed my heart’s desires quite eloquently. I went to church today – a new place I have never been before. Five familiar faces greeted me. It is good to know that God prepares the way before us and will light our way in the darkness to see the light. Today, the First Sunday in Advent, the candle of HOPE is burning. I listened to beautiful music today – listened to Zola’s music on the program. I see him in heaven’s gaze – and you walking on heaven’s doorsteps. Israel our home to be where we will be able to go directly to the Lord Yeshua Himself to touch and speak with Him. HOPE, yes, it has been a good day and I pray your journey home is with peace, rejoicing, calm, praising, and traveling blessings in God’s angelic care. I would like to journey with you one day. Sha’lu Shalom Yerusalam

Dear Sandra, Last night I watched your program on Daystar with Dr. Jeff about the Israel and Lebanon conflict. I just wanted to say that some of your facts about the conflict are a little sckewed. Many Lebanese Christians are actually for the removal of Hezbolla by Israel and believe that Israel has the right to fight back. However, what many American Christians do not know and what you did not mention is that when Isreal attacked Lebanon, that many predominantely Christian cities were destroyed in the process. Bridges were deystroyed. Supplies like food, water were unable to reach people. 40% of Lebanon is Chrisitian. These Christians in Lebanon are desendents from the time of Christ. Don’t forget that when the apostles left Jerusalem the fled through Antioch preaching the gospel. Many of those people in Antioch at the the time were Lebanese and these people were some of the first Christians. Also, war has been going on in this region for thousands of years. Conflicts beteen the Muslims, Jews and Christians is nothing new. Christians are usually caught between the crossfire. In this recent conflict, in my opinon Israel should have dropped forces behind Hezbolla strong holds and force them to the border so that they did not have the chance to hide amongst the “christians civilians”. We need not only to pray for the Christians in Isreal but for the Christians in Lebanon as well. The program I watched, made it seem like the conflict is between Israel and Lebonon when in actuality it is a war between Hezbolla and Israel. Please clarify this. Thank you and God bless everybody in the Holy Land.

Dear David. Thank you for taking the time to write. I would be interested to know where you got your facts about the Christians and the bombing and the destruction, etc.

The problem, as I see it, is that the Lebanese (consisting of Christians) did nothing to deter the terrorists, whether they are called Hezbollah or any other name. Your information sounds more like some PR generated for the use of the terrorists. Israelis, were also killed, water disrupted, crops destroyed, lives interrupted.

Fact: Between 100 and 300 rockets were fired into Israel every day during the war. I stand by my statement, the war is between Lebanon and Israel. We, as Christians must stand up for what we believe. Real believers love Israel.
